Data deletion

Last updated 2026-10-05

SociaOS is a self-hosted tool run by one owner for the owner's own accounts. The only data it holds about an account is what the owner connected, so deleting it is something the owner does in SociaOS itself. This page says what each action deletes. Nothing on it needs a request to anyone else; to ask the owner, see the contact line at the end.

Disconnect an account

Disconnect on the Accounts page deletes the stored tokens and the account id, handle and other connection details of that account at once. For TikTok that is the TikTok open id, username, display name and the creator details TikTok returned for the account (its nickname, the avatar address and the posting options). The account row stays so that past posts keep their own ids and links, but it holds none of those values any more.

Disconnect removes SociaOS's stored access at once. It asks the platform to revoke the grant only when the grant is identified and no other SociaOS connection holds it, and SociaOS does not record grant identities yet, so today it sends no revoke request. After Disconnect, also remove SociaOS in the platform's own connected-apps settings: for Google and YouTube at myaccount.google.com/permissions, for X, Reddit, LinkedIn, TikTok, Meta (Instagram and Threads) and Pinterest in their authorized or connected apps pages.

To revoke access from the platform's side instead, remove SociaOS in that platform's app settings. For YouTube, SociaOS then deletes the stored channel details within 7 days of noticing.

Delete a post

Deleting a post removes it from every platform that lets SociaOS delete it and marks the record deleted. Instagram and TikTok have no delete call, so the owner deletes those posts in the app. The ids and links of what was published, and the caption the owner wrote, are kept as the owner's publishing history. Media copies on the server are removed by the weekly cleanup once they are older than the retention period and no open post needs them.

Delete everything

The owner removes the whole instance by stopping it and deleting its data: delete the database and the media volume (the commands are in step 23 of docker/README.md). That removes every post, token and setting SociaOS holds. Nothing is stored anywhere else, with these two exceptions: the encrypted backup copies in the folder SociaOS created in the owner's own Google Drive, and the originals the owner put in Drive. Both stay in Drive until the owner deletes them.

Backups

The server keeps the last 7 nightly database dumps. A backup made before a Disconnect may still contain the values it deleted: up to 7 nights on the server, and in the owner's Drive until the owner deletes them.
